Julio Hernandez works at Clemson University in the Division for Inclusion & Equity, as the Senior Associate Director for Hispanic Outreach. Julio provides leadership & support to the Vice Presidents and Associate Vice Presidents on Inclusion and Equity to recruit, retain, advance, and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for Hispanic/Latino students, staff, and faculty. In addition, Julio conducts & supervises research based best practices to recruit and retain Hispanic/Latino students and faculty.

In addition, as Senior Associate Director for Hispanic Outreach, Julio serves as the co-chair for Clemson University’s Men of Color Summit, Brother-to-Brother Advisory Board, Global Leadership Institute Advisory Board, Clemson University Council for Diversity & Inclusion, President’s Commission for Latino Affairs, and advocates for the University's Hispanic/Latino population.

Julio has over 20 years of work experience in higher education with a background in admissions, recruiting, financial aid, marketing, public and community relations, student affairs and business operations. As an educator and community leader, Julio works towards educating & empowering communities on how to close the academic achievement gap for everyone, especially 1st generation students. Julio serves as a mentor to various high school & college students throughout the Upstate.

Also, Julio enjoys serving the community by volunteering his time as a board & committee member with various organizations throughout the state of South Carolina such as:

Hispanic Alliance, Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina, SC Minority Affairs Council, South Carolina Commission on Higher Education- Scholarships Appeals Committee, Network for Southern Economic Mobility, Greenville County Sherriff’s Office, Metropolitan Arts Council, Public Education Partners, Greenville Center for the Creative Arts, and the Greenville County School District Strategic Plan Development Team.

Julio is a first-generation high school graduate and college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in International Business from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, and a master’s degree in Management & Leadership from Webster University in Greenville. Hernandez started his doctorate in Policy Studies with a focus in Economic Development at Clemson University this fall 2018.

Julio is originally from McAllen, Texas, and grew up in San Antonio, where his family currently resides.
